A tragic motor accident in the early hours on Thursday, February 19, at Zonda, a suburb of Buduburam on the Kasoa-Winneba highway, has claimed the lives of two individuals. According to an eyewitness account, the crash was the result of excessive speeding by a motor rider. The victims are an unidentified market woman and a motor rider, both believed to be in their 30s.
According to eyewitnesses “the woman, who was carrying a basket of fish, attempted to cross the road to join a vehicle to the market when she was suddenly knocked down by the speeding motorbike, killing her on the spot”. The impact also claimed the life of the motor rider, who was reportedly heading towards Liberia Camp from Fetteh Kakraba. The witnesses attributed the horrific crash to rider’s high speed.
The Awutu Bereku Police have since conveyed the bodies to St.Gregory Hospital morgue for autopsy and further investigation. The fatal crash has heightened fear among residents and commuters, who say “accidents caused by speeding on that stretch are becoming frequent”. They are calling for a ban on the use of motorbikes, or Okada, on the Kasoa-Winneba highway to help curb the rising crash.
