Three people have died, and 11 others sustained various degrees of injury after a fatal road accident at Ajumako Kokoben in the Ajumako Enyan Essiam District of Ghana’s Central Region.
The crash involved a Toyota Isuzu pickup truck with registration number GE 1361-25 and a Toyota Voxy with registration number CN 478-26.
According to preliminary findings by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the Toyota Voxy was reportedly speeding and attempting to overtake another vehicle when the driver encountered poor visibility due to a thick cloud of dust on the road. Investigators believe the driver failed to notice the oncoming pickup truck, leading to a violent head-on collision.
The impact badly damaged both vehicles and trapped several occupants inside the wreckage. Firefighters from the GNFS in Breman Asikuma, led by Asikuma Fire Commander DO3 Christian Davidson, responded quickly to the emergency call and carried out rescue operations.
Using specialized rescue equipment, the team extricated four victims trapped in one of the vehicles. Before the arrival of the emergency responders, good Samaritans and passersby had already rescued seven others from the scene.
The injured victims were handed over to personnel from the Ghana National Ambulance Service and other medical teams for transportation to nearby health facilities. Sadly, three victims were pronounced dead from injuries sustained in the crash, and their bodies have been deposited at a nearby morgue pending identification and further investigations.
The Ghana Police Service has since launched an investigation into the exact cause of the accident. Authorities are urging motorists to drive cautiously, avoid dangerous overtaking, and reduce speed, especially on dusty roads with poor visibility, to prevent similar tragedies.
