Cabinet Revokes E.I. 144, Restores Achimota Forest to Original Reserve Status

The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources has announced that Cabinet has approved the immediate revocation of Executive Instrument (E.I.) 144, as amended by E.I. 234, in a move aimed at strengthening the protection of the Achimota Forest.

The decision restores the Achimota Forest to its original status as a Forest Reserve, reinforcing its role as a critical ecological safety zone for Accra and its surrounding communities.

Announcing the development in a social media post on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, said the revocation ensures the forest remains protected to support biodiversity conservation, climate resilience and environmental sustainability in the Greater Accra Region.

The decision is expected to bolster ongoing efforts to safeguard one of the country’s most important urban forest reserves amid increasing concerns over environmental degradation and the need to preserve Ghana’s natural ecosystems.
