NDC Had No Hand in La Pleasure Beach Demolition – La-Dadekotopon MP

The Member of Parliament for La-Dadekotopon and Deputy Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, says the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had no involvement in the demolition exercise carried out at the La Pleasure Beach.

According to the MP, neither the party nor its constituency executives were informed about, consulted on, or involved in the decision to demolish structures at the facility.

Speaking at a press conference, Naa Odoley Sowah said the development came as a surprise, particularly because previous checks indicated that the La Pleasure Beach was not part of a demolition exercise reportedly being undertaken by the Labadi Beach Hotel.

She questioned why the exercise had been extended to the Pleasure Beach without prior engagement with the relevant stakeholders.

The MP said the demolition had adversely affected several businesses operating at the facility, arguing that the affected operators should have been given adequate notice to remove their belongings and make the necessary arrangements.

She urged the affected business owners to remain calm as efforts were made to engage the relevant authorities to address the situation.

Naa Odoley Sowah announced plans for a stakeholders’ meeting involving the traditional authorities, the NDC, Labadi Beach Hotel, affected operators and other relevant parties.

She said the meeting would seek to establish the facts surrounding the demolition and determine the way forward.

The MP assured the affected business owners that the party would engage them following the stakeholder discussions and provide clarity on the next steps.
