The Ghana Education Service (GES) in the Ahafo Region has commenced investigations into an alleged sexual incident involving a security officer at Mim Senior High School and a female student.
The development sparked concern within the Mim community, following allegations that the security officer approached the student and asked her to engage in sexual activity with him.
The allegations reportedly triggered an angry reaction from some youth in the community, who are said to have assaulted the security officer following the incident.
Authorities have since initiated investigations to establish what transpired between the security officer and the student and to determine whether any misconduct occurred.
The Asunafo North Municipal Director of the Ghana Education Service, Samuel Jatong Larri, confirmed that the Service is handling the matter and has already interviewed both the security officer and the female student as part of the inquiry.
According to him, the student was interviewed in the presence of her parents to ensure that her account of the incident was properly documented and that appropriate safeguards were maintained during the process.
Mr Larri explained that the investigations are intended to provide the GES with a clear understanding of the circumstances surrounding the allegation before any decision is taken.
“We interviewed the security man. We also interviewed the girl in question in the presence of her mother and the father. So the security man narrated his side of it. The girl also did the same thing.
“So we are putting the reports together…we will forward it to the regional director. When it happens like this, the girl is our main focus. We are focused on how to protect the girl in terms of psychological trauma that she would be going through.”
