Valley View Institutions Mark Hypertension Month with Free Health Screening in Techiman

Residents of Techiman on Saturday, May 16, 2026, benefited from a free health screening exercise at Sunyani Station, organised by Valley View Adventist Church in collaboration with Valley View University and Valley View Hospital as part of activities marking World Hypertension Month.

The medical outreach, which combined health services with musical engagement, attracted a large number of participants who took the opportunity to check their blood pressure and overall health status.

Health professionals on site screened individuals for hypertension and offered medical advice aimed at promoting healthier lifestyles. Beyond the screenings, organisers also used the platform to educate the public on the importance of regular checkups and early detection.

Speaking to Globenews, Dr Victoria Oppong said the initiative forms part of efforts to address the rising cases of hypertension in communities. “Many people are living with hypertension without knowing because it often shows no symptoms. That is why regular screening is very important,” she stated. “Early detection can help prevent serious complications.”

Clergy members also used the occasion to highlight the importance of holistic well-being. Pastor Michael Osei-Poku, Church Pastor of Valley View University’s Techiman Campus, encouraged participants to take both their physical and spiritual health seriously. “Good health is not only physical; it also involves spiritual well-being. We must take care of both,” he noted.

Meanwhile, the Valley View Adventist Choir added a lively touch to the event, entertaining participants and creating a welcoming atmosphere throughout the screening.

Some participants who spoke to Globenews expressed appreciation to the organisers, describing the initiative as timely and impactful. “This has really helped me know my health status. I don’t usually get the chance to go to the hospital, so this is very useful,” one participant said.

The outreach underscores the growing role of faith-based and health institutions in promoting preventive healthcare and raising awareness about hypertension within communities.
