The Unposted Environmental Health Officers and Assistants Association of Ghana has issued a strong appeal to government to urgently resolve delays in their postings and financial clearance, citing years of unsuccessful engagements with the Ministry of Local Government.
In a statement signed by its General Secretary, Fred Awine Atinga, the Association said it has engaged the Ministry since 2021 without resolution, despite repeated assurances. It noted that on December 15, 2025, the sector minister promised to present their concerns to Cabinet and communicate the outcome, but no feedback has been received nearly five months later.
The group expressed concern that the continued delay comes at a time when Ghana is grappling with significant public health challenges, stressing the need for timely deployment of environmental health personnel.
According to the Association, the Ministry of Local Government has attributed the delay to financial clearance constraints from the Ministry of Finance. However, it pointed to recent approvals for the recruitment of 20,000 teachers and 16,000 nurses, describing the disparity as unacceptable and frustrating to its members.
The Association has therefore announced plans to stage a demonstration on May 12, 2026, at the Ministry of Local Government to demand accountability and immediate action.
It warned that if its concerns remain unaddressed, members will continue sustained advocacy for their employment.
