The Tema Regional Police Command has scored a major success in the fight against drug trafficking, intercepting 1,613 parcels of suspected narcotic substances during a targeted intelligence-led operation.
The operation took place in the early hours of Saturday, January 11, 2026, along the Akosombo–Tema road, with a focus on the Agomeda Junction area. Acting on intelligence received a day earlier, police mounted a strategic surveillance exercise to intercept a suspected consignment being transported from the Volta Region toward Tema.
At about 12:45 a.m., officers stopped and searched two vehicles that matched intelligence descriptions. A white Toyota Highlander with registration number GS 2013-13 was found to be conveying 741 parcels, while a black Mitsubishi Pajero, registration number GC 400-22, was discovered with 872 parcels.
The suspected narcotics, described as compressed parcels wrapped in yellow material, were immediately seized as exhibits. Two suspects, 33-year-old Isaac Odoi and 39-year-old Kwame Mani, were arrested at the scene and are currently assisting police with ongoing investigations.

Both the suspects and the seized items were subsequently handed over to the Regional Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in Tema on January 12 for inventory-taking and further processing.
In a press statement signed by the Tema Regional Head of Public Affairs, ASP Dede Dzakpasu, the police confirmed that samples of the seized substances are being forwarded to the Forensic Crime Laboratory for official analysis.
ASP Dzakpasu reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intensifying operations against drug trafficking and other criminal activities, while urging the public to continue providing credible information to aid security agencies.
Meanwhile, police say arrangements are underway to conduct searches at the suspects’ residences as preparations begin to process the case for court.
