Verify plots before purchase to avoid demolitions – Kwame Asante Agyemang

The Town and Country Planning Department is urging prospective land buyers, particularly those purchasing from traditional authorities, to verify the suitability of land before completing any transactions.

The Department is advising individuals to first confirm from its offices whether a parcel of land is designated for development or considered buildable, and to also seek clearance from the Lands Commission to ensure there are no legal or planning disputes associated with the property.

The caution comes amid growing concerns over the demolition of buildings erected illegally, especially those constructed on waterways and unauthorised sites, leading to significant losses for property owners.

Speaking on the issue on Globe TV’s Yese No Sen with Kojo Nsaah-Kwao, the Head of the Physical Planning Department at the Techiman Municipal Assembly, Mr Kwame Asante Agyemang, stressed that proper verification processes are essential to safeguard investments and promote orderly physical development.

He stated, “We are advising the general public, especially prospective land owners, to always verify from the Town and Country Planning Department whether a parcel of land is suitable for development before they purchase it. They should also confirm from the Lands Commission that the land is free from any encumbrances.”

He noted that adherence to due diligence in land acquisition would not only protect property owners from future demolitions but also support effective urban planning and sustainable community development.
