Newly appointed Deputy Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Awal Mohammed, says the party’s latest appointments are aimed at correcting the mistakes that contributed to its defeat in the 2024 general elections and positioning it to win power in 2028.
Speaking with Bright Atobrah Awusi on News Lens on Globe TV on Wednesday October 28, 2026, he says the combination of experienced party executives and new faces is expected to strengthen the party’s operations and improve its electoral strategy ahead of the next general election.
“We are sending a message that the party is really not going to repeat the mistakes we did in 2024 elections results. We believe that with the blend of the new and old executives, it will be able to help us to win the 2028 elections with some ease,” he said.
Mr Mohammed noted that the appointment of Dr Augustine Blay as Director of Elections, who has an information technology background, reflects the party’s intention to change its electoral strategies following its performance in the 2024 elections.
“The motive is to change the phase and strategies we use in 2024 which didn’t go well with us, so that by 2028 we will be able to win the election,” he added.
Mr Mohammed described his appointment as a formal recognition of work he has already been doing within the party’s national communication directorate, rather than an entirely new responsibility.
“This is not a new office, the only thing is that I have gotten the title to work tirelessly for the party. I’m a communication person for the party. I have been at the national communication directorate for quite some time now,” he said.
He explained that his elevation would enable him to contribute more directly to the party’s leadership, particularly in communications, while helping to groom young communicators capable of advancing the NPP’s message ahead of the 2028 elections.
“This confidence repose in me is for me to be part of the leadership of the party especially communications front so that we will be able to groom a lot of young people and command the narrative that we will be able to win the 2028 elections,” he stated
Addressing how the party intends to move beyond responding to government policies and criticism to communicating its own ideas and policy alternatives, Mr Mohammed stressed that the responsibility would be shared among members of the communications team.
He said the team would work under the leadership of the party’s Communications Director, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, to achieve its objectives.
“This is really not an individual work, it is a collective work and we are having a communication director, Dennis Miracles Aboagye as our boss, we will succeed in doing this,” he said.
The NPP’s latest reshuffle affects several key positions within the party, including elections, research, information technology, administration, finance and communications.
The appointments come as the party seeks to reorganise its structures, strengthen its communication machinery and rebuild electoral support following its defeat in the 2024 general elections.
