Kaiser Flat Residents Cry Foul Over Alleged Forced Eviction by TDC

Residents of Kaiser Flat at Tema Community Four are raising alarm over what they describe as an unlawful and forceful eviction attempt by the Tema Development Company (TDC) Ghana Limited.

According to the residents, individuals believed to be officials of TDC have recently marked their buildings with eviction notices, directing occupants to vacate their homes within seven days. They say the move is creating fear, anxiety, and uncertainty within the community.

Addressing a press conference, the aggrieved residents insist that they legally acquired the flats from TDC and therefore cannot be evicted without due process. They question the basis for the eviction directive, calling it unjustified, insensitive, and contrary to the law.

The residents also recall a similar exercise carried out by TDC about eight years ago, during which some occupants were evicted and their flats demolished under the pretext of redevelopment. They note that despite assurances of new construction, the affected area remains undeveloped and overgrown with weeds.

Assemblyman for the Horticulture Electoral Area, Baba Tunde Lasisi, who has oversight responsibility for the area, expresses concern over the situation. He reveals that after making enquiries at TDC’s Estate Department, officials there deny any knowledge of the eviction notices written on the buildings.

Baba Tunde Lasisi is therefore appealing to the government to urgently intervene to halt any planned eviction and protect the rights and livelihoods of the residents.

Some residents, many of whom are pensioners, say the situation is plunging them into fear and panic, warning that they risk losing their only homes. They insist they will resist any eviction attempt until clarity is provided and due process is followed.

Meanwhile, Unit Committee Member for the area, Mr. Koranteng Boamah, is also calling on the President to intervene, describing TDC’s actions as unfair and unjust to the residents.
