The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has strongly condemned a viral video showing a man physically assaulting a woman in Cape Coast, describing the act as cruel and unacceptable.
In a statement issued on March 29, 2026, the Ministry emphasised that the incident constitutes a serious criminal offence under Ghana’s laws, including the Domestic Violence Act, 2007 (Act 732) and the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
Following the widespread circulation of the footage, the sector minister, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has formally referred the matter to the Ghana Police Service for immediate investigation and necessary action.
Meanwhile, the Ministry disclosed that efforts are ongoing to locate and support the victim, although initial attempts to establish contact have not been successful. It assured that all available avenues are being explored to ensure the victim receives the required protection and assistance.
Beyond this, the Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration with key stakeholders to combat gender-based violence and promote a safer society.
It further urged the public to report cases of abuse through the Ministry’s Helpline of Hope Call Centre using its toll-free lines, stressing that timely reporting is critical in addressing such incidents.
