Corruption Rocks Tema Port: Four Public Officials Charged Over Seized Rice Containers

ACCRA, GHANA – In a shocking revelation of corruption within the Tema Port, four high-ranking public officials have been formally charged with corruption for allegedly conspiring to hijack ten containers of imported rice. The accused individuals include Issah Seidu of the National Insurance Commission, James Keck Osei, a former Director at the Vice President’s Secretariat, and two senior Customs officials, John Abban and Peter Archibold Hyde.

According to investigations by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), the group allegedly used fake documents and a letter falsely issued from the Office of the Vice President to claim the rice containers, which were imported from Thailand in 2022. Despite the rice being legally imported and duties paid, the group attempted to auction the containers to Seidu.

The scheme was exposed after internal investigations and a High Court ruling, which revealed the group’s corrupt practices. The accused individuals are due to appear in court on June 27, 2025, to face charges of corruption, conspiracy, and document forgery.
