NPA Boss Urges Public to Store Gas Cylinders Outdoors for Safety

The Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, has advised Ghanaians to keep their gas cylinders outside their homes rather than in kitchens or bedrooms to reduce the risk of severe damage during accidents.

He gave this advice on Monday, June 8, during the World LPG Day celebration in Accra, which was held under the theme “LPG: Pass It Forward.” According to Mr. Tameklo, ensuring safety begins with individual users and how they handle their gas cylinders.

He stressed that proper placement of cylinders can significantly limit the impact of potential explosions or leaks. He therefore encouraged the public to adopt safer practices by storing cylinders in open, well-ventilated spaces.

Mr. Tameklo also called on citizens to share knowledge about LPG safety within their communities. He urged people to educate family members and neighbours on correct handling methods and to speak up when they observe unsafe practices, promoting a culture of safety awareness nationwide.
