Six-Year-Old Girl Missing from Kasoa Orphanage; Family Suspects Foul Play

A family from Ekwamasi in the Ajumako Enyan Essiam District of the Central Region has accused a Kasoa-based orphanage of secretly selling their six-year-old daughter, who has gone missing under mysterious circumstances.

The girl was reportedly placed at the Village of Hope Orphanage in Kasoa in 2020 after a court order, following a tragic incident in which her mother, then suffering from mental instability, attempted to bury her alive shortly after birth. The child was rescued by community members, hospitalized, and later entrusted to the orphanage for care and protection.

According to the father, he visited his daughter regularly until early 2026, when the orphanage suddenly stopped him from seeing her. Despite several visits over the past four months, Asante said he was repeatedly denied access and given no explanation regarding his daughter’s whereabouts.

He noted that a formal report to the Ajumako Police led to a probe confirming that the child could no longer be traced. Subsequent consultations with the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) and the Ajumako Magistrate Court also yielded no information.

Asante now suspects that his daughter may have been sold or adopted without his consent, court authorization, or social welfare oversight. He is demanding her immediate return and has threatened legal action against the orphanage.

Family members have also appealed to the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, the Ghana Adoption Authority, Social Welfare, and DOVVSU to launch a thorough investigation. They insist that if adoption did occur, it should have been done transparently with the family’s knowledge and signed documentation.

When contacted, staff at the Village of Hope Orphanage denied any wrongdoing but said an internal investigation had been initiated. They declined to provide further details at the time of reporting.
