The Tema Regional Police Command has confirmed that two armed robbers were shot dead after they attacked and robbed a mobile money (MoMo) vendor at Community 5 in Tema on Monday, 13 April 2026, at about 8:30 a.m. The suspects were gunned down by officers from the Tema Regional Operations Unit who responded swiftly to a distress call from the area.
Preliminary investigations show that the victim operates a MoMo shop at Aba Fosuah Plaza, Community 5, and was approached by one of the suspects, who rode on a motorbike as a pillion passenger, under the pretext of making a cash-out transaction. As the vendor took her phone from her bag to process the request, the suspect pulled a pistol and demanded the cash bag, leading to a struggle in which the pillion rider shot her in the leg before the duo fled on the motorbike with the bag.
A police patrol team already on security duties in the area pursued the suspects after receiving the distress call. Near Smart Hotel at Community 5, the armed men opened fire on the officers, forcing the police to return fire and fatally shoot the suspects, who then lost control and fell off their black Royal motorbike with registration number M-24-GE 778.

The wounded suspects were rushed to the Police Hospital but were pronounced dead on arrival by medical staff, and their bodies have been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary for preservation, identification and autopsy. A subsequent search on them uncovered a black 9mm Luger pistol loaded with four rounds of ammunition, three Android mobile phones, one Ghana Card, assorted SIM cards, a talisman, a Royal motorbike key and cash amounting to GHS 11,390, while one spent cartridge was retrieved from the scene.
Police say investigations have established that the Ghana Card found on the suspects actually belongs to the robbery victim. The victim, who sustained a gunshot wound to the leg, is receiving treatment at a medical facility and is reported to be in stable condition.

The Tema Regional Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining safety and security in the region and is urging the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
