The Ghana Police Service has reassured Ibrahim Mahama and the public of a thorough investigation to ensure justice is served. At a press briefing after a meeting with the renowned Ghanaian visual artist Ibrahim Mahama who was allegedly assaulted by police officers on March 21 and Police Management Board, to establish the facts and ensure accountability, the Director-General of the Public Affairs Directorate (PAD) of the Ghana Police Service, DCOP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, disclosed that “the Inspector General of Police Christian Tetteh Yohunu has directed Crime Investigation Department (CID) to take over the investigations, he has directed the Director General Police Professional Standards Bureau to expedite action on the investigation”.
The police assured Ibrahim Mahama that “the police are willing to work with him throughout the investigation process till we get the end of it” she said.
The police noted that the investigation will continue and any one found guilty will be taken through due process of the law. The police call for calm and will keep the public updated.
The alleged incident reportedly took place on March 21 and is said to have involved members of the Inspector-General of Police’s Special Operations Team, commonly known as the “Black Maria.”
However, the team, led by Abdul Bawa Jalil, has denied any involvement, insisting its personnel were not part of the alleged assault. The case has sparked public concerns with calls for a transparent investigation, particularly given Mahama’s prominence and the seriousness of the claims.
