Three arrested over disruption of NPP constituency election in Obuasi

The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has arrested three suspects for allegedly disrupting the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Constituency Executive Election at Bidieso in Obuasi.

According to the police, the suspects stormed the polling station armed with offensive weapons, scattered ballot boxes, and threatened election officials and voters. A reinforcement team, however, intervened swiftly, leading to their arrest and the retrieval of an axe and a cutlass.

Meanwhile, the suspects have been arraigned before the Bekwai Circuit Court on charges of conspiracy to commit crime and rioting with weapons. They pleaded not guilty and were each granted bail of GH¢50,000 with two justified sureties.

The case has been adjourned to August 10, 2026, while police continue investigations and intensify efforts to arrest other suspects believed to have been involved in the incident.
