The Northern Regional Police Command has commenced investigations into the murder of the newly enskinned Chief of Yidaani, Naa Ntimla Nwenlarim, and his son, Ntimla Bilagabim, in the Gushegu District.
The two were reportedly shot and killed at their residence by three unidentified armed men in the early hours of Friday, August 14, 2026.
According to Channel One News sources, the assailants entered the compound at about 2:20 a.m. and demanded to be shown the Chief’s room before forcing to open the metal door and shooting the Chief and his son.
Security visit to the scene found the bodies in the Chief’s room with multiple gunshot wounds. Five empty BB cartridges were also recovered.
The bodies have subsequently been conveyed to the Tamale Teaching Hospital Mortuary for post-mortem examinations.
The Inspector-General of Police, Dr Christian Tettey Yohuno, has deployed two teams of the Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU) from the Police Headquarters to Yidaani to support local officers.
The teams are conducting 24-hour patrols with the local Police, while personnel from the Regional Police Intelligence Department have also been deployed to gather information and assist in identifying the perpetrators.
The Northern Regional Security Council, led by Regional Minister Ali Adolf John, has also visited the community and appealed to the bereaved family and residents to remain calm and refrain from retaliatory attacks.
An insider source noted that preliminary investigations suggest the attack was targeted, as the assailants specifically demanded access to the Chief’s room before forcibly entering and shooting the two victims.
Security agencies say the situation in Yidaani remains calm as investigations continue to identify and apprehend those responsible.
