The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has taken legal action at the High Court to block the Electoral Commission (EC) from conducting a parliamentary election rerun in 19 polling stations within the Ablekuma North Constituency.
The party’s 2024 parliamentary candidate, Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie, is the applicant in the case. The EC is named as the respondent, while the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its parliamentary candidate, Ewurabena Aubynn, are listed as interested parties.

Filed by her legal team, Marfo and Associates, the motion requests a certiorari to cancel the EC’s July 1 directive and press release on July 2 that announced the rerun scheduled for July 11. She is also seeking a prohibition order to stop the EC from carrying out the planned vote.
Owusu Afriyie argues that the EC’s action defies a January 4 High Court ruling, which ordered the Commission to complete the collation of outstanding results from 62 polling stations and declare the final outcome. According to her, that ruling remains legally binding and unchallenged by any higher court.

The NPP insists that all 281 polling stations held valid polls, and the EC has no lawful grounds to rerun any portion. The party accuses the Commission of acting beyond its mandate and violating both the Constitution and electoral laws.
Meanwhile, the EC maintains that the NPP-submitted pink sheets for the 19 polling stations lacked proper authentication from presiding officers, hence the need for a rerun to protect electoral credibility.
