NPP delegates storm UG Stadium for national conference to shape party’s future

Thousands of delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have begun massing up at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium for the party’s crucial National Delegates Conference, aimed at charting a united course ahead of the 2024 general elections.

An estimated 5,795 delegates are expected to attend the conference. These include national, regional and constituency executives, Members of Parliament, government appointees, founding members, council of elders, and other key stakeholders from across the country.

The conference is being held under the theme “Building Together with Our Values”, a reflection of the party’s focus on unity, integrity, patriotism, and service as it positions itself for the December 2024 polls.

The objective of the conference is to deliberate on critical party matters, assess the party’s performance in government, strengthen internal structures, and strategize for electoral victory.

Delegates are also expected to reaffirm their support for the presidential campaign of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s flagbearer. In anticipation of the large gathering and high-profile attendance, security has been heightened within and around the University of Ghana campus.

Armed police officers, military personnel, and national security operatives have been deployed to manage the crowd, ensure safety, and prevent any disruptions.

Entry points to the stadium have been secured with metal detectors and ID verification posts, while drone surveillance and patrol teams are being used to monitor the situation. A joint command center has also been set up to coordinate emergency response and crowd control.

The Ghana Police Service has issued a statement assuring the public and party members of a peaceful and incident-free event, urging cooperation from all participants.

Key dignitaries expected at the event include President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who will deliver a keynote address highlighting his administration’s achievements and calling for party unity; Vice President and NPP flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who is expected to outline his vision and campaign strategy for the 2024 elections; National Chairman Stephen Ayesu Ntim and General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, who will address party organization and discipline.

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor may also attend to lend his support, depending on his schedule and health. The stadium has been transformed into a sea of red, white, and blue, with party paraphernalia and campaign banners creating a festive yet focused environment.

Media outlets have pitched live coverage booths, and party communicators are already engaging the press on the sidelines of the event.

The outcome of this conference is expected to energize the base and set the tone for the final push in the NPP’s bid to return to power.
