NDC opens branch nomination form pick-up from May 2 to 16, assures transparent process

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced that nomination forms for branch-level positions will be available for pick-up from Friday, May 2 to Friday, May 16, as part of the party’s roadmap for its internal reorganisation and elections.

The announcement was made by the General Secretary of the party, Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey, at a press conference held in Accra, where he outlined key measures aimed at ensuring transparency, discipline and fairness throughout the internal electoral process.

Mr Kwetey explained that the branch-level elections form the foundation of the party’s organisational structure, stressing that a credible process at this stage is critical to the success of subsequent constituency, regional and national elections. He said the extended nomination form pick-up period is intended to give aspirants adequate time to prepare and participate fully in the process.

He assured party members that the National Executive Committee, together with regional executives, will closely supervise the exercise to prevent intimidation, manipulation and other irregular practices. According to him, the party is determined to eliminate what he described as “mafia-style activities” that have undermined internal party elections in the past.

As part of measures to safeguard the process, constituency executives have been directed to publicly announce and publish official meeting venues and times for all branches within their jurisdictions. Branch elections, he said, must be conducted strictly at approved venues and at the same times as regular branch meetings, to ensure consistency and transparency.

Mr Kwetey also addressed issues relating to membership registration and register integrity, stating that new registrations must be carried out strictly at branch offices under the supervision of constituency executives. Branch registers are to be opened for members to verify their details, while any attempt to transfer or reuse membership numbers, particularly those belonging to deceased members, will attract severe sanctions under the party’s constitution.

He reaffirmed the party’s commitment to conducting a credible and inclusive internal election process, noting that the branch-level activities will set the tone for the broader reorganisation exercise, which will eventually lead to the election of national executives at the NDC’s National Delegates Congress scheduled for December 2026.
