The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has fixed Saturday, 19th December 2026, for its National Delegates Congress, where delegates from across the country will elect new national executives to lead the party into the next phase of its political reorganisation ahead of the 2028 general elections.
The announcement was made by the party’s General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, who outlined a comprehensive, bottom-up electoral roadmap beginning at the constituency level, progressing through the regions, and culminating in the national congress. The process, according to the party leadership, is designed to strengthen internal democracy, improve transparency and eliminate irregularities associated with internal elections.
At the constituency level, nominations will open from Tuesday, 15th September to Thursday, 17th September 2026. Aspirants will be given one week after the close of nominations to complete their forms. Filing of nominations is scheduled for Wednesday, 23rd and Thursday, 24th September, followed by vetting from Friday, 25th to Sunday, 27th September. An appeals window will run from Tuesday, 29th September to Thursday, 1st October, ahead of constituency elections on Saturday, 24th and Sunday, 25th October 2026.
The regional elections will follow a similar structure. Nominations will open on Tuesday, 6th October and close on Wednesday, 7th October 2026, after which aspirants will have one week to complete their forms. Filing will take place on Wednesday, 14th and Thursday, 15th October, with vetting scheduled for Friday, 16th and Saturday, 17th October. Appeals will be heard on Sunday, 18th and Monday, 19th October. The Regional Youth and Women Conferences will be held on Friday, 13th November, leading to the main regional elections on Saturday, 14th and Sunday, 15th November 2026.
At the national level, nominations will open on Tuesday, 20th October and close on Wednesday, 21st October 2026. Given the nationwide scope of the exercise, aspirants will be allowed two weeks to complete their forms. Filing of nominations will take place from Saturday, 7th November to Monday, 9th November, followed by vetting on Thursday, 12th and Friday, 13th November. Appeals will be heard on Sunday, 15th and Monday, 16th November 2026.
The party will also hold a National Youth and Women Conference on Saturday, 12th December 2026, to elect the National Youth Organizer, National Women’s Organizer and their deputies, ahead of the main National Delegates Congress on 19th December.
Beyond the election timetable, the NDC leadership has issued strict directives aimed at safeguarding the integrity of the process. Constituency executives have been instructed to publicly announce and publish official meeting venues and times for all branches, with branch elections to be conducted at the same approved venues and scheduled times as regular branch meetings. These arrangements will be supervised and validated by regional executives and the National Executive Committee.
The party has also tightened rules on membership registration and register management. New membership registrations are to be conducted strictly at branch offices under the supervision of constituency executives, while branch registers must be opened for members to verify and correct their details. The party has warned that under no circumstances should membership numbers of deceased members be transferred or reassigned to new registrants, stressing that any breach will attract severe sanctions.
The NDC leadership says the entire exercise is deliberate, strategic and critical to rebuilding the party’s structures, reinforcing discipline at the grassroots and positioning the party strongly for future national contests.
