Executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Tema Central Constituency have locked up the offices of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in protest against what they describe as unfair and exclusionary appointment processes.
The action, led by Constituency Chairman Benjamin Iams Djakumah and supported by other constituency executives, follows growing dissatisfaction over recent appointments to the NHIS and other public positions within the area.
According to the executives, the appointments were made without consultation and overlooked several qualified party members in Tema Central.
They say the development reflects a worrying pattern of sidelining grassroots leaders who worked tirelessly for the party’s success.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, Constituency Organiser Abdul Razak Mohamed Mutawakil expressed frustration over what he described as a lack of transparency in the process.
“We don’t know who appointed whom, but the party was not consulted, and that is what we are asking. We should sit at the table and ensure that the proper thing is done. We will not work for somebody to come and take over,” he said.
He added, “We are not asking for much, just ensure that anything you do, you consult the executives. The respective branch executives are on us. We have been left hanging, from the national level to the constituency level.”

Backing the protest, Constituency Secretary Henry Davidson Ayeh said the executives feel taken for granted despite their commitment and loyalty to the party. “The appointment of the NHIS director for the Tema Metro has been done without recourse to the constituency executives, and we think that is becoming one too many. So, this morning we have come to lock up the place for the proper thing to be done. Otherwise, aluta continua,” he stated.
“It will be locked up, as long as life permits. When you complain about issues, they will tell you that it will be done. Yet, all these years, nothing has happened, and this is coming from a particular direction, which means it is deliberate,” he added.
The executives insist that the sacrifices of party faithful in Tema Central must be recognised and warned that years of hard work cannot be allowed to go unacknowledged.
It remains unclear how long the NHIS office will remain closed as the constituency executives await a response from the party’s national leadership.
