The Minority in Parliament has strongly opposed any plans by the government to introduce new taxes, warning that Ghanaians are already struggling with high living costs.
At a press briefing on Friday, the caucus shifted focus from policy debate to the real impact on households and businesses, arguing that additional taxes would only worsen economic pressure.
Deputy Minority Leader Patricia Appiagyei, speaking for the group, accused the government of failing to deliver meaningful relief despite promises of economic reforms.
She said while efforts to improve financial discipline are necessary, current measures have been slow and have not made a noticeable difference in people’s daily lives.
The Minority also questioned the consistency of the ruling National Democratic Congress, noting that the party had opposed certain taxes while in opposition but has since introduced new levies in government.
According to the caucus, the priority should be easing the burden on citizens rather than introducing fresh taxes, insisting that “Ghanaians are already taxed enough.”
