The Minority in Parliament has urged the government to urgently clear outstanding salaries and allowances owed to nurses and midwives across the country.
In a statement led by Dr. Nana Ayew Afriyie, Ranking Member on the Health Committee, the caucus attributed the payment delays to an expired financial clearance rather than a lack of approval, describing the situation as a sign of the government’s administrative inefficiency.
The Minority accused the government of politicizing critical welfare matters and called for a more compassionate and practical response.
“This is not about politics — it’s about the welfare of our nurses and midwives,” the statement stressed. “These hardworking professionals deserve timely payment for their service.”
Reaffirming its commitment to accountability and fairness, the Minority urged the Ministries of Health and Finance to expedite the clearance process to restore confidence and morale within the health sector.
