A man believed to be in his late thirties is in critical condition after allegedly inflicting severe injuries on himself using a tiling machine in Mankessim, in the Mfantseman Municipality of the Central Region.
The identity of the victim, a tiler from Kumasi, has been withheld. He was reportedly working on a tiling contract in Mankessim alongside his apprentices and is said to reside in Ajumako Techiman, commuting daily for work.
According to sources, the incident occurred on Sunday, April 26, 2026, when the victim visited a friend’s residence in Mankessim to rest. While the friend was away, the man allegedly locked himself inside the room, plugged in a tiling machine, and used it to cut his throat.
Upon returning, the friend found the room locked and received no response after knocking repeatedly. Suspecting something was wrong, he forced open a window and discovered the victim lying in a pool of blood, with the machine still plugged in and the man barely conscious.
With the help of neighbors, the victim was rushed to the Mankessim Roman Hospital and later referred to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra, where he remains in critical condition.
Close associates, including the friend and the victim’s apprentices, say they are unable to explain the incident, noting that he had not shared any personal struggles with them prior to the event.
The victim’s family is yet to be informed, while the case has been reported to the Mankessim Divisional Police Command for further investigation.
