Man arrested for allegedly assaulting 16-year-old son

The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested a 60-year-old man for allegedly assaulting his 16-year-old biological son at North Legon, after the boy reportedly fell from a moving motorbike and suffered multiple injuries.

According to a police press release dated May 6, 2026, the suspect, identified as Eric Mante, allegedly tied the boy to a quad motorbike and sped off with him after confronting him over his outing to play football with friends.

The police said the incident happened on May 3, 2026, and that the victim was dragged along a tarred road near Adonai Church after falling onto the road. Residents reportedly rushed to the boy’s aid after hearing his screams and stopped the suspect from further dragging him.

The victim was taken to the Legon Hospital for treatment, while the suspect was arrested. Police said the suspect later admitted the act, explaining that he acted out of anger over the boy’s behaviour.

He has since been charged and put before court.

The Accra Regional Police Command condemned all forms of violence against children and urged parents and guardians to discipline children through lawful and non-violent means. It also advised the public to promptly report child abuse cases to the police or other relevant authorities.
