The Chief of Krobo in the Techiman North District of the Bono East Region, Nana Oyeadieyie Assah Akompanin II, has called on the government to urgently intervene to address the challenges confronting the Krobo Nursing Training College following a recent student demonstration over conditions at the institution.
The students protested against what they described as poor teaching and learning conditions and demanded the removal of the college’s Principal, Dr Gifty Hellen Dwamena.
Reacting to the protest, Nana Assah Akompanin II appealed to the government and other relevant authorities to take immediate steps to resolve the institution’s problems, including inadequate infrastructure, staff shortages, and other operational difficulties.
He said swift intervention is needed to restore calm and improve conditions to ensure effective training of future health professionals.
“What has happened is a result of the school not having adequate infrastructure. For instance, about 90% of the students stay outside the school, and that is contributing to this situation. I plead with the government, as a matter of urgency, to come in and provide the school with adequate hostel facilities.
“We also want the government to absorb the cooking staff. Currently, the school management gives them small allowances, and that is why they are unable to recruit cooks for the school. When this is done, everything will be okay,” he said
