With the New Patriotic Party (NPP) preparing to elect its flagbearer for the 2028 general election, presidential hopeful Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has appealed to party delegates to give him the mandate to lead the party into the next electoral contest.
In a televised address to national delegates on Thursday, January 29, 2026, the former Assin Central Member of Parliament outlined a leadership vision anchored on unity, internal democracy, industrialisation, and job creation.
“I do not believe in revenge politics, and I will not tolerate any attempt to shrink the party by threatening its grassroots,” Mr. Agyapong assured delegates.
He stressed that the strength of the NPP lies in its democratic traditions, calling on members to defend those values at all times. “The NPP was built on courage and internal democracy, so I urge you to stand firm,” he said.
Highlighting his policy priorities, Mr. Agyapong stated that industrialisation and employment would be central to his leadership agenda if elected. “I stand for industrialisation, and that is my core message. I also stand for employment and jobs because what this country needs most is work for the youth,” he noted.
He therefore appealed to delegates to give him the opportunity to serve, pledging commitment and dedication. “Please give me the chance to serve you, and I will not disappoint you,” he added.
The NPP flagbearership election is scheduled to take place nationwide on Saturday, January 31, 2026. Party leadership, in collaboration with the Electoral Commission, has indicated that adequate measures have been put in place to ensure a smooth, free, and credible electoral process.
