Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. Christian Tetteh Yohunu, has vowed that all persons involved in the recent violence during the Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun election will be brought to justice.
Speaking at the 17th Police Command Conference held in Accra, the IGP said investigations were well underway to identify and apprehend individuals captured in circulating videos disrupting the electoral process.
“I must emphasize that the Ghana Police Authority does not support or overlook any form of violence associated with our democratic processes. We are currently investigating the incidents that occurred during the Ablekuma North re-election. Footage is being reviewed to identify the perpetrators, and we will ensure that justice is served,” he stated.
Dr. Yohunu also addressed the incident involving a police officer who was seen physically assaulting a journalist during the rerun. He confirmed that the officer has been interdicted and is facing criminal charges.
“Our internal oversight systems are working, and no officer is above the law. This sends a strong message to the public and our personnel that misconduct will not be tolerated,” he stressed.
The Accra Regional Police Command has encouraged the public to support the investigations by submitting any credible information or evidence.
Emergency hotlines including 18555 and 191 have been activated for this purpose.
The IGP’s strong message comes as part of renewed efforts by the Ghana Police Service to maintain integrity, professionalism, and public trust—especially during sensitive democratic processes.
