GoldBod dismisses claims of GH¢200 million loss

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), has dismissed as false and misleading reports circulating on social media alleging that the proprietor of Dominic Bonsu Ventures, Dominic Bonsu, who is being described as a former bodyguard to GoldBod Chief Executive Officer Sammy Gyamfi, absconded with GH¢200 million belonging to the Board.

In a statement, GoldBod said the publication is entirely false, malicious and deliberately intended to mislead the public.

The Board clarified that Dominic Bonsu has never served as a bodyguard or personal security officer to the GoldBod CEO, Sammy Gyamfi, and stressed that it has neither lost nor advanced GH¢200 million, or any amount of money, to Dominic Bonsu or Dominic Bonsu Ventures.

GoldBod explained that the company’s licence was suspended over suspected breaches of the terms and conditions of its licence and the GoldBod Trading Directives, in accordance with the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025.

It added that following investigations and enforcement action, Dominic Bonsu was arrested and remanded into lawful custody by the High Court in Accra, where he remains subject to ongoing legal proceedings.

The Board further condemned what it described as the deliberate publication of falsehoods aimed at distorting an ongoing enforcement action, misleading the public and undermining confidence in its operations.

GoldBod urged the public to disregard the fabricated claims and rely only on information published through its official communication channels. It also called on media organisations, bloggers and social media users to verify information before publication and uphold the highest standards of responsible journalism.

The Board reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing Ghana’s gold trading laws fairly, professionally and without fear or favour.
