Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has sounded the alarm over recent developments in the country, urging President John Mahama to take immediate action to address the issues.
In a statement on his Facebook page on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, Dr. Bawumia expressed deep concern over the government’s actions targeting Ghanaians employed during the previous NPP administration, describing them as “worrying” and “undemocratic”.
Dr. Bawumia noted that the government’s decision to arbitrarily dismiss employees simply because they were hired by the previous government is “ironic” and “unjust”. He emphasized that these dismissals have extended to public servants, including directors, with some being let go due to their connections to politicians.

Dr. Bawumia also raised concerns over reports of the government’s intention to terminate critical jobs, such as security personnel, nurses, and teachers, appointed during the previous administration.
The former Vice President criticized the growing atmosphere of insecurity, pointing to attacks on journalists, military raids on the homes of former government officials, and mob violence targeting individuals and state institutions. He warned that such actions resemble a military takeover rather than a peaceful democratic transition.
Dr. Bawumia urged President Mahama to take action to protect institutions, democratic practices, and citizens, emphasizing the need to advance democracy, protect state institutions, and uphold the Constitution.

He called on President Mahama to be a leader for all Ghanaians, saying “There is no reset by repeating or escalating what may have happened in the past. Therefore, I call on His Excellency President Mahama to be a president for all Ghanaians by putting a stop to these developments, reversing the unfair dismissals, and protecting all our citizens”
