The Awutu Senya East Municipal Assembly has handed over a second batch of school furniture to selected public schools in the municipality as part of efforts to address the persistent shortage of desks.
The intervention comprises 500 mono desks, 200 dual desks, 50 hexagonal desks and 20 teacher desks, bringing relief to pupils and teachers who have been affected by inadequate furniture in some schools.
Speaking during the presentation, the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, Phylis Naa Koryoo Okunor, said the distribution forms part of an ongoing effort to gradually address the furniture deficit across the municipality.
She acknowledged that the desks being distributed were not sufficient to meet the needs of all schools but expressed hope that the intervention would ease some of the challenges confronting pupils and teachers.
The MP also disclosed that the municipality is expected to receive an additional 4,000 desks before the end of the year.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Seth Sewornu Banini, attributed the growing demand for school furniture to the increasing population and enrolment in both basic and secondary schools across the municipality.
He said the situation required continuous expansion and renovation of existing school infrastructure, alongside the provision of adequate furniture.
According to him, pupils should not be made to sit on the floor to learn, stressing that adequate furniture is an essential component of a conducive learning environment.
The MCE said the latest intervention was achieved through a collaborative effort between the Member of Parliament, the Municipal Assembly and the Ghana Education Service.
He explained that the Ghana Education Service continues to provide the Assembly with information on furniture deficits in schools to help guide interventions.
Mr Banini also urged school authorities and students to take proper care of the furniture to ensure it remains in good condition and serves future generations.
The Municipal Education Director, Mr Hayford, commended the MCE and MP for their commitment to improving education in the municipality.
He also urged school authorities to strengthen their maintenance culture and ensure the desks are properly cared for to maximise their lifespan.
The Assembly says it will continue to work with relevant stakeholders to address the remaining furniture gaps in schools across Awutu Senya East.
