Residents of Aworano in the Techiman North District were once again left stranded after just an hour of rainfall on Thursday evening submerged the community’s only access road. The flooding, they say, has become a recurring nightmare, forcing families into fear and frustration.
For decades, both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have promised to fix the road, using it as a campaign message to win votes. But residents argue that the project has become nothing more than a political white elephant, abandoned after every election cycle.
“This situation often leaves parents deeply worried for the safety of their children,” one resident lamented, pointing out that the bridge currently in place is too narrow to handle the volume of water whenever it rains.
With little faith left in the two leading political parties, residents are now appealing to traditional rulers to step in. Some have gone as far as warning that they may boycott future elections if the road and bridge are not constructed within the next three years.
