The Ministry of Education (MoE) has called on the Ghana Police Service to intensify efforts to locate, arrest, and prosecute an interdicted teacher from Bole Senior High School who remains at large following allegations of misconduct involving students.
In a statement signed by Deputy Education Minister, Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, the Ministry expressed concern over the teacher’s failure to surrender despite the seriousness of the allegations and the widespread public attention the case has attracted.
The Ministry said recent media appearances and statements allegedly made by the teacher, including claims that his actions were unintentional and a request for a transfer to a rural school, provide potential leads that the police can use to track him down.
It, however, rejected the teacher’s explanation, insisting that available evidence suggests his actions were deliberate. The Ministry further disclosed that additional video evidence has emerged allegedly showing the teacher engaging in similar inappropriate conduct with other individuals believed to be students, raising concerns of a possible pattern of abuse of trust.
Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu has condemned the alleged conduct, describing it as unacceptable, shameful, and inconsistent with the professional and ethical standards expected of educators.
The Ministry expressed confidence in the ability of the Ghana Police Service to apprehend the suspect, but warned that failure to do so would be a disappointment given the gravity of the matter.
Beyond the Bole SHS incident, the Ministry acknowledged growing concerns over cases of indiscipline involving teachers, school authorities, and students across pre-tertiary institutions.
It has therefore directed the Ghana Education Service (GES) to take firm disciplinary action against all forms of misconduct and announced plans for a National Dialogue aimed at developing practical measures to restore discipline and ethical standards within Ghana’s education system.
The Ministry is appealing to members of the public with information on the whereabouts of the fugitive teacher to report immediately to the Ghana Police Service or the Ministry of Education.
