Bono East Regional Fire Commander Laments Inadequate Equipment, Calls For Urgent Government Intervention to Retool Service

The Bono East Regional Fire Commander, ACFO I Rev. Naomi-Ofori Adubea Sarpong, has raised serious concerns over the lack of adequate and modern firefighting equipment, warning that the situation continues to hinder the effective delivery of emergency services in the region.

Speaking on Globe TV’s Yese No Sen programme on Wednesday, April 29, the Commander expressed worry over the operational difficulties faced by personnel due to persistent logistical constraints. She noted that the absence of essential tools and equipment not only slows response times but also exposes officers to heightened risks while attending to fire outbreaks and other emergencies.

According to her, the current challenges are placing significant strain on firefighters, affecting morale and undermining the overall dignity and public confidence in the Ghana National Fire Service. She stressed that in an era where fire incidents and disasters are becoming increasingly complex, the need for modern, well-maintained equipment cannot be overstated.

The Fire Commander further indicated that several fire stations across the region are compelled to operate with outdated or insufficient resources, making it difficult to effectively contain fires and prevent extensive damage to property and lives.

She therefore appealed to the government to expedite efforts to retool the Service, reminding authorities of earlier assurances to provide modern firefighting equipment and improve the working conditions of personnel.

The call, she emphasised, is crucial not only for enhancing operational efficiency but also for safeguarding lives, protecting property, and restoring public trust in the country’s firefighting system.
