The Bono East Regional Police Command at Techiman has returned a bag containing cash of GHC 85,000 to a businessman after it was found by officers on duty at a snap checkpoint on the Techiman–Kumasi Highway.
According to a police statement, at about 4:20 a.m. on 14 February 2026, officers manning the checkpoint spotted a bag lying by the roadside, believed to have fallen from a moving vehicle. The bag had the name “Ofori” and a phone number written on it.
The duty team, led by Inspector George Appiah and three other officers, retrieved the bag and discovered that it contained a large sum of money. The item was immediately handed over to the Bono East Regional Command at Techiman for further investigation.

Police later called the phone number on the bag, and a 53-year-old businessman from Ashtown, Kumasi, who identified himself as Stephen Ofori, responded and subsequently reported to the checkpoint to claim ownership. Mr. Ofori told the police that the money, amounting to GHC 85,000, was being transported from GCB Bank in Wa to Kumasi on a commercial vehicle when it got missing.
In the presence of the claimant, officers counted and verified the cash, confirming that it was indeed GHC 85,000. After Mr. Ofori provided what police described as a satisfactory explanation and following additional verification, the amount was officially released to him.
The statement, signed by ASP Appiah Danquah, Staff Officer/PRO for the Bono East Regional Police Command, highly commended the conduct of the duty officers and the community members who drew attention to the bag. Police further encouraged the public to continue to support their work by promptly reporting such incidents and demonstrating honesty in similar situations.
