The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) and National Security operatives in the Central Region have recommended the immediate shutdown of the Nsokot Quarry Company located at Loye, in the Awutu Senya West District, citing severe safety concerns.
This follows a recent joint inspection, which revealed that the company’s operations pose a serious threat to residents of the community.
According to Mr. George Enoch Duodu, Deputy Director of Awutu Senya West NADMO, the company’s unannounced and uncontrolled blasting activities nearly caused a disaster in the area.
“We’ve tried to reason with them, but they’ve shown no interest in addressing our concerns,” Mr. Duodu said. “We are therefore urging the Minerals Commission to revoke their license and shut down the company to protect the lives of our people.”
He stressed that public safety must take precedence over corporate interests, adding that NADMO will continue to monitor the situation closely to prevent further risks.

Meanwhile, some residents of the Loye community have expressed fear for their lives, saying the company’s blasting operations have caused damage to their homes and endangered their families.
“Anytime they blast, our houses shake like there’s an earthquake. Sometimes the blasts happen without warning, and we live in fear every single day. We plead for the government’s intervention,” they said.
They are appealing to authorities to intervene urgently before the situation escalates into a tragedy.
