The North East Regional Police Command, in collaboration with the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) in Nalerigu, has intercepted 1,195 boxes of Tramadol Hydrochloride 120mg, a restricted substance popularly known as “Red.”

The drugs were discovered on September 18, 2025, after police intercepted two trucks with registration numbers GR 1712-16 and AW 4417-14 at Gbintri near Nalerigu. The vehicles, which had reportedly been loaded from Sankase in the Republic of Togo, were bound for Gbintri when they were stopped.

A search of the trucks revealed the consignment concealed among other goods. Police say the exhibits have since been secured for evidential purposes.

Six suspects, identified as Alhassan Braimah, Yakubu Muntaka, Abdulai Shakur, Mumuni Iddrisu, Mumuni Yakubu, and Moses Ayorik, were arrested in connection with the haul. During interrogation, the suspects admitted the drugs were destined for Moses Ayorik at Gbintri for onward delivery to another contact in Gushegu.

The North East Regional Police Command has confirmed that all six suspects remain in custody assisting investigations. Efforts are underway to trace and arrest other individuals believed to be connected to the consignment.

Deputy Superintendent of Police, Robert Anabik Anmain, Head of the Public Affairs Unit in the region, assured the public that the Police Service remains committed to clamping down on the trafficking of illicit drugs and safeguarding communities.
