“100 Years Yet Still Struggling” – O’Reilly SHS Headmaster Speaks Out at Centenary

The Headmaster of O’Reilly Senior High School, Francis Opare Aniagyei, has delivered a strong appeal to government and stakeholders to urgently address the school’s deep-rooted infrastructural and security challenges as the institution celebrates its 100th anniversary.

Speaking during the centenary celebration on the school premises, Mr. Aniagyei described the condition of the school as one that continues to test the resolve of both staff and students. He explained that the institution, despite its century-long contribution to education, still grapples with “serious threats to safety, inadequate infrastructure, and the absence of essential resources.”

“Today, we face ongoing challenges that make the management of O’Reilly Senior High School very Herculean. These issues have weakened our ability to monitor students properly and to ensure their full security. The situation has also created difficulties for academic work, and this is unacceptable for a school of our stature after 100 years.”

The Headmaster said staff members have often had to sacrifice beyond their means to keep the school running, with teachers using personal resources to cover gaps in the system.

“The strain on both staff and students is enormous. At times, teachers have had to rely on their own vehicles to support administrative duties because the school lacks a functioning means of transportation. These conditions make it clear that O’Reilly needs urgent intervention if it is to be transformed into the model institution we all desire.”

Despite the frustrations, Mr. Aniagyei expressed optimism that the collective resilience of the O’Reilly community will carry the school forward. He called on government, old students, and benevolent partners to rise to the occasion.

“Addressing these challenges will be pivotal in restoring dignity to O’Reilly Senior High School. These difficulties, though heavy, are strengthening our collective spirit, and with the right support, O’Reilly will rise to even greater heights.”

The Headmaster also congratulated prize winners during the event, commending staff and students for their commitment to excellence throughout the school’s century-long journey.
