The Central Regional Minister, Ekow Panyin Eduamoah Okyere, has directed the Gomoa Central District Assembly to rehabilitate all damaged boreholes in the district as part of measures to alleviate the ongoing water crisis caused by illegal mining activities.
The Minister gave the directive during a tour of the affected communities to inspect the state of water facilities. He assured residents that the government is committed to restoring access to potable water and emphasized his resolve to work closely with the District Assembly to address the situation.
The Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, also pledged his support in ensuring that communities have reliable access to water. He recalled that several boreholes were constructed in the constituency prior to the 2024 elections and promised that all malfunctioning ones will be repaired until the Agona Kwanyarko Dam can be fully operationalized to provide a sustainable water supply.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Gomoa Central, Hackman Kobina Aidoo, disclosed that funds have been allocated from the District Assembly Common Fund to support the rehabilitation exercise. He added that engineers have already been deployed to assess the boreholes in need of repair.
While expressing regret over the hardship caused by the water crisis, the DCE assured residents that all outstanding repairs would be completed soon.
A total of over 30 boreholes across various communities in the district were found to be non-functional during the Minister’s tour. Some of the damaged boreholes have already been fixed, with the remainder scheduled for repair in the coming days to ease the crisis.
