Root out corruption from Police Service – Mahama to Yohuno

President John Dramani Mahama has emphasized the need to eradicate corruption within the Ghana Police Service, advocating for greater transparency and accountability in law enforcement. He made these remarks after swearing in Christian Tetteh Yohuno as the new Inspector General of Police (IGP) at the Jubilee House in Accra.

“Mr. IGP, your role will also involve rooting out corruption within the service,” he stated.

Mahama stressed that corruption has damaging effects on justice and public trust, pointing out that unethical practices within the police force erode public confidence and weaken the justice system’s foundation.

“Corruption in law enforcement undermines justice and weakens public confidence in our security agencies,” he added.
He urged Yohuno to take decisive action against misconduct, including bribery and abuse of power, to ensure officers maintain integrity in their duties.

“It is crucial that all forms of unethical behavior, from bribery to the abuse of power, are decisively dealt with,” he said.
The President also highlighted the importance of a transparent and accountable police service that prioritizes public interests, reinforcing the government’s commitment to strengthening law enforcement institutions.
