The Ghana Armed Forces reported that approximately 60 armed illegal miners attempted to access the mine, leading to an exchange of gunfire.

In response to the incident, President John Dramani Mahama has called for a thorough investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the clash. He expressed deep regret over the loss of life and has urged AngloGold Ashanti to cover the medical and burial expenses of the victims.
