Narcotics Control Commission Seizes Over 6,000kg of Drugs in Major Crackdown – Interior Minister Reveals

The Narcotics Control Commission (NCC) has made significant strides in the fight against drug trafficking, seizing over 6,000 kilograms of illicit substances across key entry and transit points in Ghana. This was disclosed by the Minister for the Interior, Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak, during the Government Accountability Series held on Monday morning.

According to the Minister, the NCC intercepted 6,192 kilograms of cocaine, 90 kilograms of cannabis, and 17.9 kilograms of gold bars between January and June 2025. The operations took place at strategic locations including the Tema Port, Kotoka International Airport, the Paga Border, and Oyarifa.

“These seizures are a major blow to the operations of drug trafficking networks,” Muntaka noted, highlighting the commission’s increased efforts in intelligence gathering and coordinated enforcement.

He added that the commission has expanded its presence by establishing 15 new district offices across the country, allowing for more localized and responsive enforcement activities.

As part of its crackdown, the NCC conducted seven major swoops in Akosombo, Takoradi, and Madina, which significantly disrupted street-level drug distribution networks.

To boost public involvement in drug prevention, the Interior Minister also announced the launch of a toll-free hotline by the commission to enable citizens to report drug-related incidents confidentially.

In a forward-looking move, the NCC is finalizing documentation on a 100-acre parcel of land in the Eastern Region, where a state-of-the-art training academy will soon be developed to enhance the commission’s operational capacity.

“These comprehensive measures reflect the government’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the public from the dangers of narcotics while strengthening national security,” Muntaka concluded.
