Residents of Mobole in the Ningo-Prampram District are appealing to government to construct proper roads and drainage systems in the community, following last Friday’s heavy downpour which left many displaced.
The six-hour rainfall caused severe flooding, with water entering homes, destroying properties, and forcing several families to spend the night in temporary shelters.
Speaking to Rebecca Lartey, affected residents lamented that the recurring floods are due to poor road conditions and the absence of a proper drainage system, which prevents floodwaters from flowing freely. They described the situation as dire and urged authorities to take immediate action to avert future disasters.
The Assemblyman for Mobole, Jonas Tetteh Obinya, acknowledged the poor state of the community’s roads and stressed the need for a comprehensive plan to address the challenges.
The Chief of Mobole, Nene Tettey Kojo III, blamed the flooding partly on the activities of contractors who deposited sand into gutters while leveling roads, thereby blocking the natural flow of water. He appealed to the contractors to clear the debris immediately to help prevent further disasters.
