Minority MPs March to Police HQ Over Ablekuma North Election Results Delay

The Minority Members of Parliament on Wednesday, June 4, staged a significant march to the Police Headquarters to petition the Inspector General of Police over the delay in declaring parliamentary election results for the Ablekuma North constituency. This development has sparked a sense of urgency and frustration among the minority caucus, who believe that the Electoral Commission’s inaction is a serious infringement on the constitutional rights of the constituents.

At the heart of the issue is the fundamental right to representation, enshrined in the 1992 constitution. The absence of a declared Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North constituency is seen as a violation of this right, leaving the constituents without the representation they deserve in Parliament.

The Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh Dompreh, emphasized this point, highlighting the importance of ensuring that the constituents’ voices are heard in the highest echelons of government.

“The absence of a declared MP for Ablekuma North constitute a serious violation of the constitutional right to representation guaranteed under the 1992 constitution, he said.”

The Minority MPs are calling on the police to provide protection to the Electoral Commission, enabling them to declare the results without fear or intimidation. This move is seen as a necessary step to ensure that the democratic process is allowed to run its course, and the will of the people is respected.
