President John Dramani Mahama has painted a bleak picture of Ghana’s current situation, describing the country as being in crisis.

Delivering his first State of the Nation Address in his second term on Thursday, February 27, he acknowledged the harsh economic conditions and struggles citizens are facing.

“I am sad to report that the state of our nation is not good,” he stated, stressing the severity of the economic downturn and its impact on livelihoods.

Mahama pointed to the upcoming National Economic Dialogue on March 3rd and 4th, as well as the Finance Minister’s budget presentation on March 11th, as platforms where the full extent of the challenges will be discussed, along with potential solutions.

Despite the difficulties, he assured Ghanaians of his resolve to tackle the crisis, in line with the responsibility entrusted to him.

“Mr. Speaker, it is not my style to lament and shift blame when confronted with challenges,” he said. “I have therefore not come here to lament on the state of our country, though there is much to lament about.”
