Ken Agyapong Officially Declares Intent to Contest NPP 2028 Flagbearer Race

Prominent New Patriotic Party (NPP) stalwart and former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Hon. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has officially announced his intention to contest the party’s upcoming presidential primaries ahead of the 2028 general elections.

Speaking via a live call to Net2 TV and Oman FM on the afternoon of Tuesday, July 29, 2025, Mr. Agyapong confirmed his candidacy following the party’s formal opening of nominations.

“Now that nominations have been opened, I will be contesting for the NPP’s 2028 Presidential Primaries,” he declared.

The outspoken businessman and media mogul expressed gratitude for what he described as overwhelming support from all parts of the country, cutting across party lines, demographics, and professions.

“It’s not just from within our party, but across age groups and sectors, young people, professionals, and even Members of Parliament have reached out. Some are even offering to personally cover the cost of my nomination forms,” he noted.

Framing his candidacy as a collective mission, Agyapong called for a unifying national agenda that rises above partisanship and prioritizes inclusive development.
“Together, we will rise above partisanship, unite across regions, and build a Ghana where every citizen, young or old, rich or poor, has a fair shot at success,” he added. “I am ready to listen and lead with integrity and purpose.”

In a lighter moment during his announcement, Mr. Agyapong also extended birthday wishes to Lawyer Kwaku Amoh-Darteh, General Manager of Kencity Group and his Communications Director, acknowledging his dedication and contributions to the campaign team.

The NPP is expected to elect its next presidential candidate on January 31, 2026, as the party begins its early preparations to reclaim power in the 2028 general elections following its defeat in 2024.
