The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has reiterated the government’s commitment to removing beggars and street dwellers from major cities across Ghana.

During a recent visit to the Northern Region, Muntaka announced plans to launch a nationwide operation targeting five key cities, including Tamale, in collaboration with security services.
The minister cited concerns over national security, stating that beggars pose a threat beyond being a mere nuisance. He referenced a recent operation in Accra, where over 2,000 foreign beggars were apprehended, with nearly half already repatriated. Muntaka warned that the remaining individuals would be processed and removed by the end of the week.

Muntaka also targeted prostitution, warning individuals engaged in the practice to leave voluntarily or face forced removal. As the Asawase lawmaker, he emphasized the government’s determination to restore order and decency to urban streets, assuring that the ministry would take decisive action against those involved in begging and prostitution.
